Nov 25, Paradise Bay

Paradise Bay, on the Antarctic Peninsula, is in a beautiful, icy bay surrounded by mountains with glaciers. It is the first place where I landed in Antarctica.

It is also the first place where I tried snowshoes!

Exposed rocks are covered in lichens.

Almirante Brown, in Paradise Bay, is the name of an Argentine antarctic base. The base was closed while we were here.

The place where we landed has a small colony of Gentoo penguins.

There were also blue-eyed Shags (dark) and Snowy Sheathbills (white).

On a zodiac tour of the bay, we saw icebergs and a couple of seals. Supposedly, these are crabeater seals.

Also some nice glaciers.

And nesting Shags.
